”Short-range air defence is a game of chess.” US soldiers from the 4th Air Defense Regiment train alongside their NATO Allies during air defence exercise Tobruq Legacy in Lithuania.
Synopsis
Tobruq Legacy 20 is an annual and long-planned multinational air defence exercise taking place between 12 and 27 September in Lithuania, Germany and Poland. Lithuania is hosting and directing the exercise, which includes more than 750 personnel from 10 NATO countries, including the Czech Republic, Estonia, France, Hungary, Italy, Latvia, Poland, Slovakia and the United States.
During the exercise, US and other Allied air defence forces conducted on-the-move short-range air defence for Lithuanian troops; established a multinational surface-based air defence operations cell; and utilised a recognised air picture, which displayed all aerial threat locations.
Footage includes shots of the US Alpha Battery, 5th Battalion, 4th Air Defense Regiment training alongside the Lithuanian Army in wooded terrain near the Lithuanian city of Panevezys; shots of Lithuanian Air Force helicopters acting as simulated attacking forces; and interviews with US air defence soldiers.
All US soldiers did a 14-day restriction of movement and COVID test before the exercise. They also wore face masks when indoors or in close quarters.

My soldiers are adaptable and flexible, and they pick up on all the training and tactics that the Lithuanians train them on.
So the Lithuanians have taught us their ground force engagements, their react-ability to ground force troops such as ambushes, obstacles and any surprise engagements that they encounter.’
